National Medical Assistants Week – It is a great opportunity to recognize medical assistants’ vital contributions to health care, and to raise the awareness of the profession.

RI NEWSLETTER ON EDU SEMINARS

The 70th Annual Educational AMT Program and National Meeting was held in Providence, Rhode Island this past July 7-14. All the seminars were very interesting and informative. Our keynote speaker was the famous Psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow who spoke about his new book,Live the Truth. He shared real experiences of people who could not diagnose their true problems until Dr. Ablow delved deeper into what was actually bothering them. Afterward he held a book signing for those of us who purchased his book. Labs Are Vital spoke about the current shortages of lab techs and how important it is to prepare specimens properly for shipping. Another seminar called Responsibilities of a Medical Assistant focused on all the duties for the Back Office from opening to closing the office. Preparing for a Pandemic spoke about all the meds that are being stalk piled in case of a disaster and how to stay calm cool and collected. Stress Management focused on breathing techniques and how to effectively reduce your stress level. Looking forward to seeing all of you in Minneapolis, MN. JUNE 22-29, 2009.

We all know that attending a National Convention is one of the best experiences any person can take part in. My third experience at the convention was great one. As a delegate I was able to attend some of the best educational seminars available. Social activities that included a ferry boat ride to Newport, which made me realize that some people have yachts bigger than my home. Attending the Awards Banquet brought to my attention the fact that everyone attending was not only representing their own state, but the organization as a whole. As a delegate to the convention from Pennsylvania I was able to attend the Annual Business Meeting. Pennsylvania had four delegates at the meeting. The meeting included bylaw changes, multiple reports from different sectors of the organization, and reports from Home Office. Being able to attend the Town Hall Meeting was not only a professional experience but a personal one as well. As a representative from Pennsylvania I was able to present The Bill Hartle Award to Home Office. The award was presented as a remembrance of deceased members of the Pennsylvania State Society. This brought to life the fact that as being an AMT member from Pennsylvania I am not only a member of one of the largest professional organization world wide, but a member of one of the biggest extended families in the world.
